Healthy becomes unhealthy for the rat race........

Many of the news items tell us the good old healthy competition, How? Yes, doping and all that. Is it not unhealthy competition? This has led to a far more sad thing. I’ll tell you what that is.
Nowadays we see students in their early teens are indulging into it. Many of them are so much pressurized by their parents to get first in the class. So if they can’t work that hard they do this.
I have seen many of my high school classmates never used to help any body with copy books to copy notes. I thought may be its because they want to keep their book neat and clean. But this was because no one should get their good notes made from guides. Another thing I noticed is they never answered the question “how much did you study”? Even if they answered they used to reply “hey I slept off so I couldn’t study much”. They might have studied loads but you see they never tell.
They join tuitions and tell no one even if we ask.
Why at such a young age students become so crooked. Why?
This shows how much more these students are caught up in the rat race than the adults.

Agreed...
once in my college we were discussing about "Are we raising burnt out children?" and someone pointed out that "It's because we want their future to be bright"...i wonder how do we brighten their future by curbing their individuality??

Another good one shobna, well certainly it's because of selfishness, they don't want anyone to know, how much they've learned or they just want others to think that they were lazy so others will also be like that, well how they come up with such character at a really young age, no idea

shobna,
that was addressed to Rat, the other blogger. i was only commenting on what he had written in response to your post in the coffee shop. he was somewhat rude, but funny.

anyway, i like the issues you discuss in your blog.

de rat race begins from the kindergarten..he he...(another unstoppable prob....)

Consider this scenario:
U work hard...really hard...refer lotz of buks n lotz of sites...n prepare excellent study notes...at the end of de day...u r sitting exhausted but satisfied with yer effort...n then a pal of yers comes n get those notes from ye...(photocopy!!!)
The next day both of u appear 4 a test(MCQs!!! SAY..de legendary entrance exam)...n this pal qualifies...when u get 'busted'...reply genuinely what u would feel...what yer mom's response would be...

(cont from my prev comment)darwin's theory rules pal...de fittest survive...It's upto us 2 decide which one's bigger...Karma or Dharma...i don't really know if they'll make a perfect combo...

(Brilliant attempts mate...gotta think of nice title 4 thee...!!!i'll find one soon..keep writing...)

yupp saw yer reply just now..(de nxt time better restrict replies 2 where exactly they belong...hope u get my point...that means in de same post...)
u said:if the other person has used the notes in a constructive way and he gets selected then what's wrong with it.Even if I have made the notes. What I say is why win by suppressing the other and not rising above him/her. now that is not full victory. Its like running a race with a wounded athelete."

me: excellent reply, indeed i agree wid dat...n promise me u wont(at any part of de long journey left) literally 'regret'(at least 4 a split second)
in case that scenario occurs in real...n that yer amma won't say "nee iniyum naattukaare sevicho...avar avarde karyavum nokki pokum"...

REALITY is too harsh honey...
CHK out dis incident(it happnd 2 me)
Its one day prior 2 a sessional exam, wid a huge syllabus 2 complete...had 2 make selection of topics...one of the topics dat i had learned was at first ignored by my colleague...he returned seconds later 2 learn that wid me...u know wat he said...?..."allel athum koode padichekkam. ini athangaanam chothichu nee matram utharam ezhuthi passayi njaan pottyal njaan asooya mooothu chaakum"...he meant it as a joke anyway...

Shobna, this is again a good post. There is increasingly high competition btw students from the primary schools. I agree with you that there is no point in doing this as long as they learn what is expected off. Competition is what sometimes keep students going because when they are little, parents use it as a tool to make them study, may be to beat their peers and get a satisfaction frm tht. Again, where there is a system of selecting people based on their ranks, there is competition subsists.

I also agree with Nithin's comments above.

But regardless of parents pressure, the system of education and all, competition is in fact unnecessary :)

@..
I agree with nithin..
It's about competition right..?!
well then .. how can it remain 'healthy' .. if it becomes 'parasitical' .. with your fellow-competitors feeding off you..!!
One doesn't mind the occasional bit of help.. but there's something called rational self-interest too!
@shobna
I liked your blogs.. especially..'public of today'
way to go!!
